In continuation of our 40th year anniversary we had another chat with Normerica’s President and CEO David McFarlane who mentioned the shift in buying trends since Normerica originated. David recognizes there has been a change in the age of our typical client/home buyer. Millennials are increasingly entering the market for a cottage – often as their first home – which changes the way the timber frame industry must look at who is buying their product.
The growing importance on work-life balance is a defining ambition of the millennial generation. It’s no surprise, then, that a 2019 Recreational Property Trends survey conducted by Leger for RE/MAX Canada indicated that 56 per cent of millennials are in the market to purchase a recreational property. Millennials work to live, and a recreational property can often be the outlet to do so.
While recreational properties can allow for more proximity to the natural environment, millennials are mindful of the impact they’re having on it. Ecological footprint becomes a factor when deciding on what type of structure to build and we’re seeing more and more clients pursuing Net Zero Ready and Energy Star ratings.
“We share our Clients’ concern for the environment, as a result we are always improving our product and looking for solutions that are more energy efficient than ever”, says David.
Normerica’s industry-leading, super-insulated, prefabricated homes deliver peace of mind when it comes to heating and cooling your home. Exceptionally airtight, Normerica homes and cottages can come Net Zero Ready and are perfect if you’re interested in reducing your energy bill and your carbon footprint. With our building envelope prefabricated offsite, this also limits site disturbance and waste meaning a faster and more efficient build.
At Normerica, we love seeing how the industry evolves over time. Whether it’s producing more contemporary designs or building to the highest environmental standards, we work hard to make sure that we stay ahead of the curve and continue to deliver the dream homes that our clients have come to expect of us for over 40 years.
On behalf of our entire organization, we thank you for your business these past 40 years and we look forward to working together in the future. Contact us for a consultation.
