Spotlight on our People

While I enjoy writing about the timber frame industry and lifestyle, I think sometimes it is interesting to find out something about the people who are involved in this business, and specifically, Normerica. You have already met David McFarlane, our President and have heard from Roman Chacinski, one of the industry’s top designers. I now would like you to meet Sam Kewen, our Business Manager.

Sam has worked at Normerica for more than 25 years and plays a key role in managing the business, dealing with our clients and being an important resource to our internal personnel.

She works tirelessly on all aspects of our business, knows virtually all of our clients on a first name basis and has over the years has become a face of the firm. Sam also looks after the corporate history of Normerica. She remembers all of our past clients, where they built and what they built. I am sure that any of our past and current clients who are reading this will remember and know Sam.

One of Sam’s favourites from years ago

Sam is a throwback to business in general where loyalty to a firm and in return, a firm’s loyalty to its people was the norm. That may not be the case in today’s business environment but Sam still holds true to those values.

On top of everything else, Sam is a great cook. She often brings in new recipes to the office so that we can be the guinea pigs for her creations. She never fails to impress with her recipes. She is always upbeat, has time to talk to anyone and has the pulse of the firm.

Sam has developed into the de facto matriarch of our corporate family. Blessed with the rare innate ability to achieve results through the collaborative will and purpose of others, Sam has instilled in us a culture of success and mutual respect. Somewhere between the empathy and compassion of a June Cleaver or Florence Nightingale and the steadfast resolve and determination of Margaret Thatcher or Joan of Arc exists an extraordinarily generous individual of style, substance & wisdom. It is difficult to imagine a hive without its Queen Bee. The drones will miss you.

-Roman Chacinski

Sam is stepping down from her full time duties but will help us out as needed. She feels that at this time (and I cannot disclose her age of course) it is time to stop and smell the roses. Good luck in retirement Sam, we all will miss you!
